happy independence day – free sessions

I am so grateful for all the men and women serving in our armed forces who risk their lives to protect the many freedoms that my family and I enjoy every day! We are truly blessed to live in such a wonderful country where we can worship as we wish, express ourselves as we like and travel freely across this beautiful nation. If you or someone you love is serving in the armed forces I want to THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart! My family and I greatly appreciate your sacrifice!

In celebration and gratitude of Independence Day and all that it means to me I am offering a special promotion through the month of July. I am offering FREE sessions for anyone who has served or is serving in any branch of the armed forces. If your spouse is currently deployed you can still take advantage of this special offer, email me for more details.

God bless America!

where in the world am i? | contest

This time of year I start thinking about and planning the epic trips and adventures for the following year. I’m not sure yet where next year will take me but I was going through some old images recently and found this snap of me on a backpacking trip from a few years back. I’m one of those crazy photographers who can’t go on a 12 mile backpacking trip without carrying 30lbs. in camera gear. It always sounds like a good idea when I’m in the planning stage so that I can capture those amazing images as the sun sets across the back country. It never fails however that I ALWAYS end up regretting the extra weight in my pack from my much needed (yeah right) camera equipment. I did this when I climbed to the top of Mt. Timpanogos (18 miles round trip gaining over 4800 ft in elevation in the first 9 miles), my pack in the image below is overloaded with unnecessary camera gear and I did this when I drug my two eldest kids (ages 5 & 7) on a 7 mile round trip over nighter in the beautiful high Uinta’s this past summer… what a blast that was! I have the most AMAZING kids in the world!

I thought it would be fun to see if anyone could guess where this photo was taken. The first person to leave a comment at the bottom of this post with the correct answer will win a $10 amazon.com gift card. Be sure to leave your email address so that I can send it to you.

hint: it’s somewhere in the US.

Good luck!

fashion shoot in my studio | utah fashion photographer

I work with models on a regular basis for my stock photography as well as to help them build their own portfolio’s and I really enjoy it. I worked with Libby and Dyson a while back and these are just a couple of images from their AWESOME shoots! I know I am posting a lot high key images with white backgrounds and I know what your are thinking… Does he only shoot high key images on white backgrounds? No, this is not the only style I shoot. I just have a lot of images like this that I have shot lately so I’m posting them.

I get a lot of questions from photographers asking how I get completely white backgrounds. I do this entirely in the camera, I don’t use photoshop at all to accomplish this. I am in the process of capturing my lighting setup in a lighting diagram which I am planning on making available. Leave me a comment and let me know if you are interested and if I get big enough response I will post the lighting diagram for free on my blog. If you really want to know how to do this feel free to have all of your photographer friends leave a comment too… like I said if I get a big enough response I will post it on my blog as a free download.

If you are a photographer, stylist or creative director and would like to work with either of these two amazing models please click on the “contact” link in the menu and send me a quick note and I will forward you their contact info.

I hope you enjoy them… feel free to leave a comment at the bottom letting me know what you think.
