One of the best parts of being a photographer is that I get to work with a lot of kids… I LOVE kids. They don’t mind when I act like a 5 year old, they think it’s funny. One of my favorite challenges is to get a shy or stubborn child to be my buddy. This is no easy feat!
Dear parents,
Your children will sense your stress, if you are stressed out or pressure them to be good you will NOT get portraits that capture their natural innocence and personality. Don’t worry if everything doesn’t work out exactly as planned… they’re kids, does anything ever work out as planned? The best thing to do before and during their session is relax and let them be kids. In order to reduce some of the pressure don’t make plans to be anywhere before or after their session… unless it’s to take them to get ice cream in which case you can invite me too.
If you or your spouse are one of those people who are always stressed then the best thing you can do is to find a place where your child won’t see you and let me work with them one on one. I promise that you will be much happier with the final portraits if they can have fun during their session and not be rushed or pushed into doing something they don’t want to do. My experience tells me that kids want to help and want to have fun and that is what I let them do when I photograph them.
Remember:
NO Stress!!
Be prepared, set cloths out the night before.
Don’t make plans to be anywhere before or after your child’s session.
If you have multiple kids bring something to keep them busy during their down time.
