UPDATE: I’ve added a second workshop date. Take a look here to find out more info.
I hope you had a happy Easter! I love this time of year… as everything around starts to come back to life. Summer is just around the corner!!!!
I wanted to let all of my photographer friends know that the deadline to receive the early bird pricing for the lighting workshop is two weeks from today, Monday April 19th so if you are interested in signing up please do so soon. You will still be able to register after the 19th if there are any spots left but the price will increase to $500.
You won’t want to miss this workshop; it is going to be jam packed with great information on lighting tips and techniques. I strongly believe that the best way to learn something is by doing it so as you learn these techniques you will have the opportunity to put them to use during the workshop. You will be doing everything you learn in hopes that it will sink in before you leave.

If you are a photographer this post is intended for you…
So you’ve been to a workshop or two hoping to learn what makes other photographers successful as business owners and photographers. When you got home you attempted to implement some of those great ideas in your own business only to find out that they wont really work in your market or your business.
This workshop will be NOTHING like the other workshops you’ve attended. One thing I’ve learned in business is that just because an idea or technique works for one doesn’t mean that it will work for others. Everything you will learn in this workshop can be incorporated into your own style and open up new possibilities to you as an artist. With so many natural light photographers entering the industry the knowledge you gain from this workshop will help set you apart from your competition.
Details ~
This will be a one day hands on intensive workshop (9AM-8PM). You will spend the first half of the day learning how to set up lights and shooting in my studio. I will show you a couple different lighting setups and demonstrate the differences between them. Everything you learn in the morning will be used in the second half of the day when we venture outdoors and break out the nifty little flash units that are lurking in your bags. We will also work with reflectors and other creative light sources that you can bring with you on location.
This will not be a workshop where I do all the work. I believe the best way to learn something is to do it yourself so you will be doing the setup and tear down of the lights, holding reflectors for each other, shooting, etc. When you go home, you should be comfortable with how to do basic off camera lighting and be able to incorporate it into your style the day you get back.
When/Where/Cost ~
The workshop will be held on Thursday May 13th in and around my studio in SLC, UT. We will meet up the night before for a group dinner to break the ice and get to know each other.
The cost for this mind blow is $450.
Because I think it’s important for everyone to get a chance to get their hands dirty I am limiting the number of attendees to 15 so if you want in here is what you need to do. To reserve your spot just CLICK HERE. Once I get your payment I will send you a confirmation email and then in a couple of weeks I will send out an email to all attendees with more details.
Traveling?
If you will be traveling to attend the workshop you will want to fly into the SLC International airport. The Little America hotel has rooms as low as $99/night on May 12th. This is a decent hotel in downtown SLC and they offer a shuttle to and from the airport. I believe their shuttle service would even drop you off at my studio for a small fee (ask them about shuttle service before you book). If you want a room for cheaper than that there are a handful of budget hotels around, just email me and I will give you some suggestions.

Please spread the word about the workshop to anyone you know who may be interested.
Last night I had the opportunity to hang out with some new photographer friends at my studio. I am so blessed to do what I love and have AWESOME friends!
One of the photographers there was Sheryll Lynne, she has been stalking me for a while (LOL). Not really stalking I guess but she asked me about 9 months ago to photograph her for her website and we still haven’t been able to align our schedules to make it happen. Sheryll Lynne is one of those people that everyone love to be around because she makes everyone laugh.
Sheryll Lynne you can count this one as a freebie but the next one will cost you… hahaha. She made me promise to post this image tonight.
I would love to hear what captions you can come up with for this next image… leave a comment if you have a good one.
Every year WPPI hosts a convention/trade show in Las Vegas. This convention attracts over 11,000 wedding and portrait photographers from around the world for loads of fun and lots of learning. For the past couple of years I have organized photo shoots for photographers to participate in. This year I am super excited to announce that I am organizing or helping to organize a number of shoots.
The first shoot to be announced is exciting for many reasons but for starters ALL of the profits are going to be donated to The Portrait House. Other reasons include but are not limited to… a super cool location, 5 shooting areas, multiple models…
If you are interested in participating in this shoot you’d better act fast because space is limited and I’m sure it’s going to sell out quick!
